Kernza® is not your average grain. Developed by The Land Institute, it's a perennial wheatgrass that grows back year after year without replanting. Its roots reach up to ten feet deep, sequestering carbon, preventing erosion, and rebuilding soil health with every passing season.
When we discovered Kernza®, we knew we'd found something worth building around. Not just a novel ingredient, but a philosophy: that agriculture can be regenerative, that spirits can be sustainable, and that every bottle can be a small act of stewardship.

Perennial Spirits was founded on a simple conviction: that the choices we make as producers matter. From the grain we source to the water we use to the bottles we fill, every decision is made with the land in mind.

Kernza® enters the market in a small way, appearing in cereal and beer as early adopters begin exploring this remarkable perennial grain.
2023
The Founders Meet
After working separately on Kernza® in different ways, the Founders meet and start working together toward a shared vision.
2024
Sustain-A-Grain Partnership
We formalize a partnership with Sustain-A-Grain, a group of Kernza® farmers and processors in the Heartland, securing our grain supply at the source.
2025
Go to Market
Perennial Spirits launches online, becoming the world's first vodka distilled from 100% Kernza® perennial grain.
2026
Our First State
Launch in Minnesota. Now available at over 15 bottle shops and 10 bars and restaurants across the state.
The Craft
Small-Batch.
Thoughtfully Distilled.
Our vodka is distilled in small batches from 100% Kernza® grain. We don't blend in neutral grain spirits or add anything that doesn't belong. The result is a clean, slightly sweet spirit with a subtle earthiness that reflects the grain it came from.
At 80 proof, it's designed to be sipped, mixed, and savored. We believe vodka should have character, not just clarity.
